Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Japan's Longest Day (1967)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Japan's Longest Day opened in Japan on August 12, 1967, close to the anniversary of the surrender, and this started a trend of releasing World War II films on that anniversary, among them director Kihachi Okamoto's own 1971 film The Battle of Okinawa.
- Masaki Kobayashi was originally supposed to direct Japan's Longest Day but did not want to, so co-producer Sanezumi Fujimoto suggested that Kihachi Okamoto take the job instead, according to Okamoto.
