Plot summary
In a hill station, Raju works as a tour guide and looks after four young orphans. When one of the children is accidentally hurt, an ayurvedic guru says the only cure is a herb that grows on the banks of Lake Manasarovar, so Raju goes to the Himalayas to bring it back. Meanwhile, Indraja, the daughter of Lord Indra, visits Manasarovar and drops her ring there. That ring is what lets her enter heaven, and without it she cannot return. Brihaspathi, the Deva-guru, orders her to go to Earth and get it back before the next Kartik Poornima. Raju picks the ring up and starts wearing it, not knowing what power it holds. Indraja traces it to his hometown, where her strange speech and her claims of divinity are laughed at, and Raju and the children give her shelter.

- Chiranjeevi shot the song "Dhinakkuthaa Kasakkuro" despite running a fever of 104 degrees Fahrenheit, sponging his body with ice so that Sridevi could fly abroad for another shoot. He was admitted to Vijaya Hospital right after and discharged 15 days later.
- The story was first planned with the hero Raju flying to the Moon in a rocket to meet the goddess Indraja, but the idea was dropped because the barren lunar surface would not work for song picturization. Chiranjeevi then suggested the Manasarovar setting that was approved.
- Cinematographer Ajay Vincent faked the snow-covered hills of Manasarovar for the song "Andhaalalo Mahodayam" using polythene sheets smeared with vaseline.
- According to Chiranjeevi, composer Ilaiyaraaja wrote the song "Abbani Teeyani" within less than a day during the making of the film.
- The song "Abbanee Teeyani" was reused in Hindi as "Dhak Dhak Karne Laga" in the film Beta (1992), and its tune was reused as "Kannathil Kannam Vaika" in the 1994 film Watchman Vadivel.
- A massive set was raised at Vijaya Vauhini Studios in Madras for the film, which producer Dutt called possibly the biggest set ever for a Telugu film, after Prema Nagar.
