Plot summary
Laura Albert invents a literary persona, a transgender writer called JT LeRoy, and Sarah and The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things are credited to that name. Her sister-in-law, Savannah Knoop, takes the part of the author and goes out as JT LeRoy in her place. Knoop keeps up the pretense for six years, appearing as the writer while the persona and the novels belong to Albert. The account comes from Knoop's memoir, Girl Boy Girl: How I Became JT Leroy.
