Plot summary
Ike Hendrix studies law in New Orleans and drives a taxi, sharing a place with his girlfriend, Christella. A night out with their friends Tony and Phyllis takes them to a club, where a hypnosis act puts Ike under. He comes out of it the host of J.D. Walker, a 1940s pimp and numbers runner who kept a black-market meat plant during the war and was shot dead thirty years earlier. Memories of that life come to Ike, along with J.D.'s clothes, mannerisms and temper, and he turns violent toward Christella. J.D. is out to settle accounts with the men who had him killed, and Ike's body is how he will reach them.
