Plot summary
Politics in the boxing association cost Prabhu Selvaraj his place at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Fifteen years on he is a government coach at the national women's training academy, angry at the boxers' lethargy and at the partiality in selection. A rift with the association head Dev Khatri brings a false harassment charge and a transfer to Chennai, where he is asked to find and develop new women boxers. At a tournament he notices Ezhil Madhi, a roadside fish seller, thrashing the judges; her elder sister Lakshmi, called Lux, has boxed for eight years for a sports quota government job. Prabhu offers to fund and coach Madhi for a few hours each day, though his ruthless methods and her aggressive nature clash.
