Plot summary
Gemma Hall is a dental hygienist in Pittsburgh, raising her daughter Maya in the home where she grew up, and she is dating Nick Mendoza, a police officer. When Gemma was a child, her mother Ingrid died in the bathroom of that house, and a force shut the door. Gemma now astral projects, and in the Further she can pick up objects and carry them back into the real world. Walking Maya home from school, she passes three elderly people, and in one projection one of them hunts her. Another of the three, Lester, arrives at the clinic where she works for a cleaning.
