Plot summary
Chad and Howard sit in middle management at a corporation, sent to work out of a branch for six weeks, far from their homes. Both nurse resentments from past dealings with women. Chad, who thought up the plan and pushes it hardest, suggests they choose a woman with little confidence, each date her, and stop seeing her on the same day. Howard, quieter and more reluctant, goes along. They settle on Christine, a deaf colleague. Because she feels self-conscious about her deafness, she wears headphones, and anyone wanting her attention has to signal to her rather than speak, so people do not learn she cannot hear. Chad and Howard each ask her out, and for weeks both of them date her.
