Plot summary
Shot at John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Tittenhurst Park home in Ascot, Berkshire, England, and at locations in London and New York between May and September 1971, the film sets every song from Lennon's Imagine album and four tracks from Ono's Fly to its own visual treatment. Between the songs come ordinary moments from the pair's life and improvised comic and fantasy scenes. Lennon described the method by saying the cameras arrived each day and the two decided what to do then. The film holds only two spoken words, "Good morning", with music carrying everything else. Ono had made several films before she met Lennon, and he had made 8mm films at home.

Yoko Ono said the closing shot was filmed on South Beach on Staten Island, where she and John Lennon tried to walk on water; she admitted it looked awkward because the day was windy and the waves were rough.- The VHS release of 1985 in the UK and 1986 in the US was trimmed by the record company to 55 minutes without consulting Yoko Ono: "Mind Train" was cut entirely, as were half of "I Don't Wanna Be a Soldier", Whisper Piece and all of "Midsummer New York".
- Yoko Ono recalled that John Lennon came up with the idea of using a helicopter for the "Jealous Guy" sequence; she feared it was getting a bit Hollywood, but the result was, she said, a beautiful scene.
- John Lennon described the shoot as deliberately loose: the crew simply brought the camera each day and he and Yoko Ono decided on the spot what they would film.
