Plot summary
Lise flies from Copenhagen to Rome carrying a plan she keeps to herself, and the people she meets take her for a tourist. On the plane a young man recoils from the sight of her and flees, missing his flight. Bill, a British believer in macrobiotics, makes advances that she turns aside, saying sex does not concern her; he drives her to her hotel and kisses her at parting. In the morning she falls in with Helen, an elderly woman buying footwear for a nephew who is due to arrive. At the department store Lise picks up a scarf. A car crash outside sends her running; injured, she is carried into a car by Carlo, who drives away with her.
