Identifying Features (2020) on Netflix

Plot summary

Jesús, a teenager in a poor part of Guanajuato, lets his friend Rigo talk him into leaving their rural town to try to cross into the United States. His mother Magdalena stays behind in the town alone. After a few months with no news of either young man, she and Rigo's mother Chuya go to the police. Officers show them photographs of murdered migrants whose bodies have not been identified. Chuya recognizes Rigo among the pictures, but Magdalena does not see Jesús in any of them. Chuya speaks to her at Rigo's funeral, and Magdalena, still hoping her son is alive, travels north to search for him.
