Plot summary
The Kau family is preparing an engagement party at its estate. The family heads, Kau Ming and Anson Kau, are welcoming guests for their younger daughter, Sherry Kau, and her fiancé, Johnnie Kei, a wealthy heir. Kau Ming is a bankrupt businessman, and Anson Kau chairs the Women's Aid Association. The Kau family also includes an elder son, Tim Kau. Inspector Karl arrives and tells the household that a young woman, Cindy Cheung, has been found dead in an apparent suicide. The family members say they do not know the girl. The inspector has a diary and a photograph, and he has questions for Kau Ming.
