Plot summary
Fourteen-year-old Wynne Kinch was adopted into the family she lives with, and she has a crush on George, her stepbrother, who is thirty-two. She spies on him, dreams of marrying him when she is old enough, and returns often to the house the family lived in before. Watching George in the bathroom, she sees scratches on his back, and she finds the jumper she made for him in the rubbish with blood on it. Several teenage girls in the area have been killed and the killer is still at large, so Wynne begins to suspect George. The town around her is being demolished and rebuilt.
