Plot summary
College professor Gene Garrison collects his parents, Tom and Margaret, at the airport on their return from Florida, drives them home, takes them to dinner and spends the evening with them. Driving home afterward, he hears his father's barbs in his mind. Norma, a woman he has been seeing, wants something more serious. Margaret has a heart attack and is hospitalized. When Gene visits her, Tom is pacing the waiting room and asks Gene to go with him to the Rotary Club, though Gene had meant to stay at his mother's side.
