Plot summary
Warrant Officer Ryan Sanders leads a Canadian sniper section in Kandahar Province, where troops are pushing Hyena Road into Taliban territory and meeting insurgent resistance. When evacuation vehicles cannot reach his section under fire, the soldiers walk to a Pashtun village, where a tribal elder with eyes of two different colors shelters them and turns the Taliban away. Back at base, Sanders keeps his relationship with Captain Jennifer Bowman, who is stationed there too, secret. Captain Pete Mitchell, an intelligence officer, hears Sanders' account of the elder and begins a search for him as a potential ally, with help from a local asset called The Cleaner. Mitchell believes the man is the Ghost, a former militant who fought the Soviets.

- Hyena Road is based on the real Route Hyena (formerly Route Fosters), a road built by Task Force Kandahar in Afghanistan between 2008 and 2011 and worked on by many units of the Canadian Armed Forces. For the film, the units are shown as Western Canadian, based on Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, an English-language regiment stationed in Western Canada.
