Plot summary
Sistine is on vacation in New Orleans while coping with her mother's sickness and a recent layoff. She and Hannah join a low-cost alligator-watching tour through the Louisiana swamplands. Walker mentions old attempts to bring hippos into the area. Other passengers are Dionne, nurse Sally, Sally's father Tim, and her son Mikey. Dionne secretly pays Rodrigo to steer the boat miles beyond the approved route so she can photograph an alligator called Big Ben. The group finds Big Ben's mutilated carcass, then a massive hippo strikes the boat and flips it.
