Plot summary

The sickly girl to whom Gotho brings flowers each day is the only person who treats him kindly. Gotho, a hunchback with below average intelligence, works in a morgue, and when the girl dies he refuses to accept it, insisting that she is only sleeping. When her body is brought to the morgue to be prepared for burial, his fury at the men who handle her sends the police after him. A scientist whose work society has rejected offers a bargain: Gotho must supply him with fresh corpses from the graveyard and living victims, and the scientist will bring the girl back from the dead.
