Plot summary
Sam and Will are expecting their first child. Will travels from Seattle to Chicago to meet her parents, planning to ask her father Tom for his permission to marry Sam. Tom and Will argue over dinner, and Will leaves without saying anything about the baby or a wedding. The next day, before his flight home, Sam phones him. She hears an odd sound, tells him something is wrong, and the call goes dead. Every flight at the airport is canceled, and a news report describes a seismic event that has knocked out power and telecommunications along the West Coast. Will goes back to Tom's house, and the two men set out by car for Seattle to look for Sam.
