Plot summary
Sloane Benson dislikes the holidays, when her mother Elaine keeps arranging introductions and the family treats her single status as a problem. At the Christmas dinner her younger brother York announces his engagement to Liz, which leaves Sloane the only unattached adult present. Jackson, an Australian golfer, spends the same day with Carly and her parents; when Carly complains that he brought no gift, though they had agreed to skip presents, he walks out. After Christmas the two meet at the mall, both returning unwanted gifts, and Jackson proposes a pact. They will be Holidates, companions for holidays only, so neither needs a clingy date. Sloane hesitates, then accepts. They spend New Year's Eve together and on Valentine's Day he poses as her boyfriend when they run into her ex.
