Plot summary
Jörg Geissner works for a Munich bank, and his assignment takes him to Paladiki, the Greek island where his employer once extended a loan. The registered security for that credit is a hospital and a power generating plant, and Geissner suspects that neither building exists. Losing the loan would bankrupt the island, so the islanders are determined that he prove nothing. Panos, a German-Greek man-about-town, keeps Geissner company on the island and makes sure his search for the power plant leads nowhere. Mayor Spyros searches for something that could pass for a power plant, at night, after a few drinks. Geissner's trip stretches on, and he is left to reconsider the priorities and responsibilities in his life.
