Plot summary
Ingrid, a young Swedish woman, lives with her uncle Carl on his farm in rural Northern California, and she sings in the local church choir. When a girl in the town is killed with a pair of scissors, the killing baffles the locals, and Sheriff Peterson takes up the case. Bill Spry, a new member of the choir, takes an interest in Ingrid, and she is evasive with him. One night, on her way home, a masked figure attacks her, and she escapes. The attack stirs memories of her father's sexual molestation of her and of her mother's suicide, and psychosexual nightmares haunt her.

- Director Herb Freed and his wife, Anne Marisse, co-wrote the screenplay of Haunts after Freed experienced a series of repressed memories, which followed Marisse witnessing a car accident.
- Cameron Mitchell called Haunts "very strange" and was unsure of director Herb Freed's vision; in the original cut his character embraced Ingrid, but that scene was excised in post-production.
