Plot summary
In 1918, seventeen-year-old Benio Hanamura is boisterous and quarrelsome, and she would rather practice kendo and climb trees than behave as a young lady of the Taisho era is expected to. She keeps close company with her friends Tamaki and Ranmaru, and wartime will bring tests of love, independence and friendship. Her family, meanwhile, has already decided what her future should hold, while Benio means to choose her own love.
