Plot summary
Filmed over three years, the documentary follows American citizens who investigate anomalies and irregularities in electronic voting during the 2000 and 2004 United States elections. Bev Harris is the director of Black Box Voting, a nonprofit election watchdog group, and Kathleen Wynne is its associate director. Electronic voting machines count about ninety percent of the country's votes in county, state and federal elections. Kathleen Wynne filmed Harris finding voting machine records in a trash bag in Volusia County, Florida. Andy Stephenson, employed by Black Box Voting in 2004, helped compare audit documents there.

- Diebold wrote to HBO claiming that Harri Hursti's attack on one of its machines in Florida "proved later to be a complete sham", a statement that independent computer scientists at UC Berkeley, who investigated the hack, proved wholly wrong.
