Plot summary
Ben Warren and his fiancée, Jennifer Ballard, are riding a stagecoach when Frank Slayton's outlaw gang holds it up. The robbers leave Warren for dead and ride off with Jennifer. Warren survives and follows them, but the townspeople he meets will not help him. He recruits two men who have sworn revenge on Slayton, the gang leader. Among them is Jess Burgess, a gang member who objected to the kidnapping and was left in the desert to die. The other is Johash, an Indian whose sister Slayton abducted and killed under similar circumstances. Warren is basically a pacifist, a result of his experiences during the American Civil War.
