Plot summary
In Dublin, a circle of friends drifts through romances that start quickly and cool just as fast. Straight, gay, lesbian and bisexual pairings all appear inside the same group of friends and acquaintances. Tom is the one who puts the pattern into words, likening it to a goldfish's memory, which several of them believe holds a thing for only three seconds: people go from one relationship straight into the next and forget the pain the last one caused. Clara, Isolde, David, Red, Larry, Renee, Kate and Angie are caught up in the tangle, and each new attraction rearranges who is with whom.
