Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Godzilla's glowing meltdown look came from 200 small orange light bulbs placed on the suit built for Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla and covered with semitransparent vinyl plates. Suit actor Kenpachiro Satsuma struggled to perform in it because the cable powering the bulbs added weight, and the carbonic acid gas it emitted nearly suffocated him six times.
- Five days before the film opened, a large bronze statue of Godzilla was erected in the Hibiya cinema district. After the release, mourners left ¥10-100 coins and tobacco at the statue, and a Japanese travel agency marked Godzilla's demise with tours of places the monster had destroyed over its 40-year tenure.
- In the original script, Godzilla's final battle was to take place in World City, then still under construction and costing $2.35 billion, until Tokyo governor Yukio Aoshima scrapped the project as unpopular with taxpayers.
- The monster was initially going to be named "Barubaroi", but that name was rejected because it sounded too similar to the Berbers and could have been considered offensive, leaving the filmmakers with Destoroyah.
- Ifukube called Godzilla's death theme one of the most difficult pieces he had ever composed, approaching it as if he were writing the theme to his own death. The film was the last scored by Ifukube released in his lifetime.
- Because the Godzilla Junior suit was almost the same size as the main Godzilla suit, a small animatronic prop was used in scenes where Junior interacts with his father, for proper scaling. The immature Destoroyahs bombarded by the JSDF were realized with Bandai action figures.
