Plot summary
World is one of three caramel makers, alongside Giant and Apollo, fighting for shelf space in a market that imported American candy is steadily taking over. Goda, World's head of advertising, is looking for a poster girl for a coming campaign when he spots Kyoko, a working-class young woman with bad teeth, and dresses her in a space suit with a ray gun as the company mascot. Kyoko takes to the treatment, leaving behind her job at a failing taxi firm and her family. Nishi, Goda's assistant, is ordered by his boss to get close to Kurahashi, who handles advertising for Apollo, so that World can learn what its rival is planning.
