- Atomu Mizuishi was originally hired only as a motion actor for Alphonse, with a separate voice actor to be cast, but his on-set work so impressed author Hiromu Arakawa and director Fumihiko Sori that he was kept on to voice the character too.
- Because the roles were filled with Japanese actors, the first announcement brought a flood of online criticism, some arguing Roy Mustang should have been played by Mitsuhiro Oikawa, while Gluttony's Shinji Uchiyama and Envy's Kanata Hongo were called the only saving grace.
- The two sequel films had planned to shoot in Italy like the first, but abandoned the plan because of the COVID-19 pandemic and built an open set in Kyonan, Chiba, instead.
- Romi Park, who voiced Edward in the anime, had a close friend on the costume staff, and having learned of the live-action film early from outside the production, she happily lent her copies of the original manga as costume reference.
