Plot summary
Naihla Khalil, an Egyptologist who teaches at an American college, has come home from a trip to Egypt with an Egyptian mummy in her possession. Her partner at the college is Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a professor of medicine who lectures in the morning and, after dark, experiments on corpses he has stitched together. His work brings his creation to life at the same hour that the mummy stirs. The cursed pharaoh's mummy and the reanimated corpse spread terror through a medical university, and Naihla and Victor, both teachers at the college, are the pair who might be able to end them.

- Universal Studios owns the copyright to the 1931 Frankenstein film's monster design, so Damien Leone could not use that look for the creature in Frankenstein vs. The Mummy.
- People were taken aback by the monster's long hair, which Damien Leone based on a passage of the novel saying the creature has "black locks of hair", and he intended it to resemble a zombie with rotting flesh.
- Frankenstein vs. The Mummy was the first on-screen confrontation between the Mummy and Frankenstein's monster; the two monsters had never appeared together on film before.
- Leone was inspired by Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein comic book, and the monster's muscular build in the film was similar to the creature's build in that comic.
