Plot summary
Bill and Robin are boys in the same village, and both of them come to care for Lena. Her family moves away, and the friends grow up to become scientists, working in an abandoned farmhouse on a Reproducer, a machine that can make an exact copy of any object. Lena comes back to the village years later, and the feelings of childhood return. The two men set their work aside, and Robin goes off for a while to study his family's business. Bill, whose hopes have rested on Lena, finds her heart fixed on Robin, and he asks her to let the Reproducer make a duplicate of her.
