- The film adapts the first part of Eduard Bornhöhe's 1892 satirical story collection Tallinna narrid ja narrikesed, about the inventor Jaan Tatikas and the poet Saalomon Vesipruul in late 19th-century Tallinn. Both characters have become archetypes in Estonian culture, often used as comparisons.
