Plot summary
Mary Ann is surrounded by comrades who are dangerous. An English astronomer who keeps to himself is drawn into their company, and he is held hostage. His captivity unfolds in the San Fernando Valley, in a suburb twisted away from the ordinary. Why he was taken is not yet clear to him, nor what is meant to befall him and humanity unless he acts.
