Plot summary
Dr. Guy Luthan works the emergency room of a New York hospital. One night a homeless man is brought in wearing a wristband from a hospital Luthan does not recognize; he mentions a drug Luthan has never heard of. The man's heart rate fluctuates wildly, and then he dies. When Luthan looks for the body and the case records, both have disappeared. His superiors tell him to drop it. Luthan keeps asking about the dead man, and his inquiries lead him to an eminent surgeon at the hospital. Around the surgeon are people who want the hospital's secret kept, and Luthan's questions are not welcome there.

- Before Hugh Grant took the lead, Extreme Measures was developed as a starring vehicle for Alec Baldwin; the project then moved to Simian Films, the company of Grant and his then-girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley.
