Two of the young men who rob a New York liquor store are burned by a masked figure with a flamethrower; the rest escape and rejoin a street gang led by X, who tells his followers that the streets and the city will be theirs. X's gang holds up an armored car and brings down a police helicopter, and a garbage truck driven by Be Gee scatters them before the police arrive. Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Exterminator 2 (1984)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- William Sachs said he came up with the idea of the Exterminator wearing a flameproof mask throughout Exterminator 2, because star Bob Ginty was committed to another movie and could not be released, so Sachs told the studio he would fix it so they did not need him.
- Exterminator 2 began shooting in New York, but the production spent double its $1.5 million budget, hitting $3 million after only about 40 minutes of footage, and moved to Los Angeles.
- The production shipped the garbage truck from New York to Los Angeles because New York trucks are metal while LA ones are fiberglass, and in LA the crew threw garbage in the streets and painted the curbs a different color to make them pass for New York.
- Arye Gross, cast as gang member Turbo in Exterminator 2, read for Sachs in a Marlon Brando voice, talking through his nose; Sachs gave him the part, but when they shot the scene Gross did not talk like that.
- The reshoots left some original scenes in the wrong order: the Exterminator visits Caroline's home early in the film, then later rides in the garbage truck with her while she wears the outfit from the earlier scene.
- William Sachs sought a co-director credit for his reshoots on Exterminator 2 but, after a legal battle with Buntzman, settled for co-writer and "additional scenes directed by" credits.
SPOILER
In the original version of Exterminator 2, Caroline did not die: she shows up in her wheelchair and shoots X, wounding him, and the scenes where John finds her dead body were filmed later during the reshoots with stand-ins.
