Plot summary
Peter Pearce's elderly father Simon wants out of a sixty-five-year marriage, and Peter, a dentist in New York City, tries to talk him out of it. Six years later, Peter is divorced from Maria after thirty-five years, Simon's dementia has ended his hopes of playing the field, and Peter's older son Nick is about to marry Thea. Nick's bachelor getaway takes him to a resort in Tulum, Mexico, with his brother Mickey and friends, and Peter turns up at the same spot, hoping to lift his mood after signing the divorce papers. At the resort Nick, a career waiter, sits glum while his friends celebrate. Peter meets Eileen, a guest from another wedding, and a mild flirtation follows.
