Plot summary
Ernest P. Worrell works as a janitor at a local college. Near a construction site he finds an antique metal plate. He takes it to Dr. Abner Melon, a professor at the college. Dr. Abner Melon thinks the plate came from Goliath, a giant cannon from the Revolutionary War. His colleagues had mocked his theory that England's crown jewels were stolen in that war and hidden in the missing cannon. The two men begin to search the ground near the construction site for the cannon.
