Plot summary
Charlotte Hawthorn leaves an all-girls Catholic school for a university, where a fencing scholarship pays her way. She shares a room with Nicole and, her mother dead, tells her roommate that she is alone. Charlotte has thalassemia and takes medicine for it, and she waits tables at a coffee shop owned by Chris. She draws the attention of Professor Cole, the fencing coach who also teaches literature, and her teammate Eliza grows jealous.
