Plot summary
In the final hour before the armistice, a reckless order reaches the forward trench. Sergeant Archie Jones and his fellow soldiers have only to wait one more hour, but instead they are ordered to go over the top one final time. As eleven o'clock approaches Archie is badly wounded and slips between two worlds. One holds the sounds and smells of the battlefield he knows; the other offers warm sunshine, a gentle hug, and a child's innocent smile.
