A genetics specialist is sent to stay in a coastal inn to find the origin of an infection that has started spreading slowly.

Nicolás Finnigan, a scientist specializing in genetics, goes in search of a prestigious doctor who has disappeared and who is suspected of experimenting on humans. The investigation leads him to a fictional seaside resort where this doctor is believed to have been last seen. The place, Santa Sofía del Mar, is famous for its spa, and apparently the wife of the missing doctor contracted a mysterious illness there. Finnigan, in his eagerness to get to the truth, decides to move to this secluded resort and stay in an old inn that hides many secrets.
