Plot summary
Violet Gates, a Chicago therapist widowed after the death of her husband Blake, has started dating again. She leaves her young son Toby with her younger sister Jen and arrives at Palate, a restaurant at the top of a tower, for a first date with Henry Campbell, a photographer she met through a dating app. While she waits, she meets bartender Cara, pianist Phil and fellow diners Richard and Connor. Her phone begins to receive Digi-Drops, short-range messages from an unknown sender, at first memes and then increasingly threatening. When Henry arrives they are seated and served by a new waiter, Matt, and he tries to help her work out who in their section of the restaurant could be sending them. The messages keep coming.

- Drop was loosely inspired by an experience Smosh cast member Olivia Sui had in 2022: she anonymously received a series of Shrek memes AirDropped to her phone while on a date with her boyfriend Sam Lerner. The pair found it "creepy and bizarre" and developed the idea with their friend, producer Cameron Fuller.
