Plot summary
Chrissy, a single mother in Newcastle, has gone out onto a 21st-story balcony with her four-year-old son, Jake, and is threatening to throw herself off. Rob, a police psychologist who retired on ill health, doubts that he is the right person to talk her down, but he is the only person available to help. He talks her into coming in from the balcony, and afterward he asks her out. On the date, Chrissy, Rob, Jake and a neighbor named Pat get into a lift; a drunken gang has smashed into the engine room, and the four of them are trapped inside.
