Plot summary
Peter Latang is a banker from Manhattan. He returns to his hometown of Warwick, Rhode Island, to pick up an urn, and he has forgotten his wallet. He seeks help at a house across the street and finds that Donald Treebeck, his high school neighbor, still lives there. Donald appeals to the emotional history the two men share and keeps Peter from leaving. What Peter expected to be a simple favor becomes a long van ride into the past they have in common.
