Plot summary
Phil Carter runs a restaurant and has been married to Lisa for years. They have three grown children. Karen's husband is Tom, an art photographer. Tim works in the restaurant and drinks heavily; he failed out of college. Matt is a college student who has just become engaged to Allison. The family appears successful but has problems. Lisa looks past these troubles. Matt brings Allison home for a weekend to meet his relatives, having described them to her in flattering terms. He also keeps a secret from his parents.
