On Christmas Eve, Clara Oswald discovers Santa Claus stuck on her roof. The Doctor turns up to take her away, and Santa declares that the Doctor will need his assistance before the night ends. They travel to a science base at the North Pole. There, four crew members lie in the infirmary while Dream Crabs feed on them. These blind creatures trap their victims in dreams to distract them as they consume their brains, and their telepathy reveals the surroundings of anyone pondering a crab.
