Plot summary
Clifford Skridlow is an introverted professor of comparative literature at Monroe College, a small Chicago school his father runs and which is short of money. Smooth Walker, a pimp, owes $80,000 to a Chicago mob boss known as Mom, and to escape the debt he invents a fictional chiropractor called Doctor Detroit. Spotting Clifford dining alone, Smooth and his four women, Monica, Jasmine, Karen and Thelma, take him out and give him a night on the town. A phone call the next morning during a faculty meeting tells Clifford that Smooth has left town and that the women are now his. He agrees to take on the Doctor Detroit persona to help them. Monroe College meanwhile expects a corporate endowment that could keep it open.
