Malamaal Weekly (2006) on Netflix

Plot summary

In Laholi, a village hit by drought, most families have pledged their belongings to the Thakurain, and the weekly lottery is one of the few amusements anyone can afford. Lilaram, the village's only educated man, acts as go-between for the lottery organization and takes a commission each time a villager wins. Reading the published numbers one day, he sees that a ticket sold in Laholi has won the top prize, one crore. Intending to take the ticket as his own, he mortgages his wife's pet goat, Gattu, to the Thakurain to pay for a feast for everyone who plays. The man he is looking for stays away, and by elimination Lilaram decides the winner is Anthony, the town drunk.
