Plot summary
Xander Ronson, an ex-soldier, is broke in Inner Mongolia and fights in illegal prizefights to pay his debts. Arrested, he is given a month by a judge to settle everything or go back to jail. Three thugs attack him in an alley after he follows Anika there. The fight is an audition arranged by her stepfather Chambers, a New York art collector. Chambers will clear Ronson's debts if he guides an expedition into the Mongolian mountains, where a fabled temple is said to hold the Tangka of God Ochirvaani, a Buddhist tapestry guarded by a curse.
