Plot summary
Deep Blue is a documentary drawn from a television series about the oceans, cut down into a single theatrical film. The idea grew out of a shorter version of that series made for a concert. The sea and its life are the subject: penguins, sharks, whales, polar bears and seals appear, and the cameras descend to depths where creatures had never been captured on film. Those who made it went through more than 70,000 hours of raw footage, and about a quarter of what reached the screen had not been broadcast. Narration is kept to roughly 15 lines, and the score was played by an orchestra making its cinema debut.
