Plot summary
The ruined Earth of 2062 can no longer support life, so the people who survived are kept in suspended animation aboard the USS Legacy, a military-run station in orbit above the planet, where scientists work on a way to make the surface livable again. Captain Cal Brody faces a sentence from his commanding officer, Colonel Alexa Stant, after he disobeys orders while trying to stop a rampaging soldier; his punishment is three months guarding the stasis chamber. Then the criminal Max Durbin arrives with prisoners who have broken out of the colony on Earth and takes over the station. Kendall, the scientist close to Cal, has an experiment that Max means to turn to his own ends, and its work with the sun's rays could clear the planet's surface.
