Plot summary
The society is a futuristic totalitarian utopia. Its people are not born: they are created in hatcheries by genetic engineering, and every one of them has a predestined place in the social order. Conditioning keeps each mind obedient to the rules. Bernard Marx and Lenina Crowne live inside that system, and Mustapha Mond holds the office of Director. John, an outsider, comes among them, and his presence jeopardizes the status quo.
