Plot summary
Frank Harrington drives his family to his mother-in-law's house on Christmas Eve each year, and after twenty years the route bores him. This year he turns onto a shortcut through a remote forest. His wife Laura and their children, Richard and Marion, are in the car with Marion's boyfriend Brad. A near-collision leaves a woman in white standing at Frank's window with a baby in her arms. Marion proposes that they take her to a cabin nearby. Because the car is full, Marion offers to walk behind it. On the road a hearse appears, and the family cannot seem to reach the places named on the signs.
